Aaron Mentkowski is an American Meteorologist. He joined the Eyewitness News team as a meteorologist in March 2000. He is the first – and only – Certified Broadcast Meteorologist in Buffalo, and the 35th in the country, to earn a Certified Broadcast Meteorologist designation from the American Meteorological Society. Equally important, The CBM designation is a mark of distinction and recognition.

The Lockport native grew up in North Tonawanda and, for as long as he can remember, has been fascinated with weather. Growing up in Western New York meant he saw his share of snowstorms and his passion for weather prompted him to pursue a career in meteorology. After graduating from North Tonawanda High School, he attended the University of Buffalo and went on to SUNY Oswego. While there he studied Lake Effect Snow patterns and earned a BS in Meteorology.

Sharon Osorio, who was laid off from Channel 7 in December 2009, is a native of Torrance, Calif. Married to Channel 7 meteorologist Mentkowski, Osorio, 37, has also worked in Macon, Ga.; Fort Myers, Fla.; and in Atlanta at CNN.
After starting a family, Osorio, who is bilingual, worked part-time at the station. Not to mention, she also created a line of coloring books and CDs to help young children learn Spanish. Since August 2010, she has worked in news features for WBFO-FM.
“In public radio, I can take a story that on TV would be a minute and a half, and on the radio, I have five minutes to do the story,” she said. “Your sound bites don’t have to be a maximum of 10 seconds.”

Prior to returning to Buffalo, Aaron gained broadcast experience in Macon, Georgia, and Fort Myers, Florida. He has also forecast weather conditions for ski resorts and radio stations in North America.

Aaron is an adjunct professor of meteorology at Jamestown Community College and Buffalo State College. He also serves as a forensic meteorologist for various law firms. Aaron is honored to have been inducted into the North Tonawanda High School Wall of Fame in 2006.
Mentkowski was also nominated for Best Local Weatherman in Buffalo’s Art Voice magazine. He was featured on “LIVE with Regis and Kelly” on January 2009, chatting about the snow in Buffalo. Moreover, Aaron also forecasts the weather live every afternoon for WJYE 96.1FM and WYRK 106.5FM.

In his spare time, Aaron enjoys playing soccer and ice hockey and is a First Degree Black Belt in Kenpo Karate. In addition, Aaron and his wife Sharon are the proud parents of three young boys.
