Abby Ham Interview

I am so happy to wake you up every morning on 10News Today and Mornings with Fox43! I am originally from the south and am so happy to be home right where I belong. I am a proud graduate of the University of Arizona’s journalism program. I started my career in Parkersburg, West Virginia/Marietta, Ohio, as anchor and producer of the 5:00 show at WTAP. After a year, I was promoted to evening anchor and 11:00 producer.

WTAP was the very best place to begin my journalism career. While there, I learned to shoot and edit video, report, anchor and produce. I was also very involved with the 2004 presidential election between Former President George W. Bush and Senator John Kerry. I even got the opportunity to interview then-Democratic Vice Presidential candidate John Edwards. While there, I won several Associated Press awards for anchoring and reporting.

I was with WTAP for more than two years and then moved here to Knoxville to become weekend anchor/reporter for WBIR. After a few months, I became the morning anchor on 10News Today. I reported on various stories, including the fire at the McClung Warehouses. The coverage was nominated for a regional Emmy.

In 2007, I had the opportunity to anchor the morning newscast in Cleveland, Ohio. While I was sad to leave, I was excited for the opportunity at WKYC. While in Cleveland, I got to report on the 2008 presidential election, more specifically the Cleveland debate between 2008 Democratic Presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama. I also volunteered with special organizations, like the JDRF, The Ronald McDonald House, and Dress for Success.

In 2009, it was time to come home. I missed my family and this beautiful area and could not wait to return. WBIR was kind enough to give me my old job back and again I sit at the anchor desk for 10News Today.

My anchor duties have expanded a bit. In 2010, we started a 4:30 am newscast and in 2011 we partnered with Fox 43 to launch a two hour morning show, Mornings with Fox 43 from 7-9. I also produce Your Stories, a weekly feature report on the interesting people and places in East Tennessee. I am very involved with the Buddy’s Race Against Cancer every year to benefit the Thompson Cancer Survival Center and love volunteering for other local charitable organizations.

I am originally from Atlanta, Georgia, but have lived all over the country. My parents, brother, niece, nephew and aunt also now call Knoxville home. My husband, Herby, our son, Owen, dog, Yogi and I love being here in East Tennessee with family, friends, the wonderful WBIR viewers and SEC football. Thanks for watching, everyone!
