Al b. Sure! born Albert Joseph Brown III is a three-time Grammy-nominated American R&B record producer, recording artist, radio host and actor.
Al b. Sure Biography
He studied at Mount Vernon High School in New York, where he was a star football quarterback. He was then given an athletic scholarship to the University of Iowa but rejected it to pursue a music career.
In 1987, he was selected by Quincy Jones as the first winner of the Sony Innovators Talent Search. He worked with Jones on various projects, most notably the platinum single “The Secret Garden (Sweet Seduction Suite)” from Jones’ double-platinum-certified album Back on the Block. On this recording, he was one of a quartet with El DeBarge, Barry White, and James Ingram.
His debut album of 1988 In Effect Mode topped the Billboard R&B chart for seven straight weeks, selling more than two million copies, with the single “Nite and Day,” topped the R&B chart and reached No. 7 on the Billboard Hot 100.
He won an AMA for Best New R&B Artist and received many Grammy and American Music Award (AMA) nominations. He also won the award for Best New Artist and received several Soul Train Award nominations. His 1-900 phone line was third in generating revenue, and also won several New York Music Awards.
As a writer and producer, he introduced multi-platinum acts to the music industry such as Jodeci and teen R&B performer Tevin Campbell, as well as Dave Hollister, Faith Evans, Case, and Usher. He signed with Hidden Beach Recordings in 2009. His first single for the label, “I Love It (Papi Aye, Aye, Aye),” entered the Radio & Records Urban AC chart at No. 33.
