Alanna Martella Biography and Career
Martella, an American journalist hailing from Cincinnati, currently works as a traffic anchor for WLWT. However, her journey to this role has been filled with diverse experiences in the world of journalism.
Before joining WLWT, Martella served as the morning traffic anchor for Good Morning Indiana at WRTV. In addition to her traffic anchor responsibilities, she took on the task of creating compelling stories related to road projects, infrastructure, transportation systems, and more.
Her journalism career began as a multimedia journalist and anchor at KTTC-TV, the NBC affiliate in Rochester, Minnesota. During her time there, she demonstrated her reporting prowess by covering live shots during blizzards and delving into numerous farm stories. Martella’s exceptional work earned her two Emmy awards during her tenure at KTTC-TV.
Martella’s passion for journalism led her to pursue a major in broadcast journalism with specializations in political science and theater at Ohio University’s E.W. Scripps School of Journalism. While studying there, she took on the role of anchoring the student-run nightly news program, NewsWatch, on WOUB, the school’s news station. Her dedication to journalism was matched by her involvement in her sorority, Chi Omega.
Her commitment to learning and growth in journalism extended to internships at Local 12 News in Cincinnati and a semester spent in New York City, where she worked at CNN on Anderson Cooper 360. At CNN, she was part of a team that produced a follow-up documentary to Lee Hirsch’s award-winning documentary “Bully”.
Beyond her work in journalism, Alanna holds a special place in her heart for the Make-A-Wish Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana Southern Ohio Region, as she herself was a wish recipient. In 2010, she was granted a wish to shadow the anchors at the TODAY Show, an experience that deeply impacted her. Currently, she serves on the Board of Directors for the organization.
Outside of her professional life, you can find Alanna indulging in various hobbies and activities. She is a certified yoga teacher and often practices or teaches yoga. Exploring her beloved city, watching The Office, and attending the latest sports games are some of the ways she spends her free time. Additionally, she engages in regular workouts, enjoys playing the violin, and gives keynote speeches about her experiences with illness, near-death experiences, and overcoming obstacles.
