Anayeli Ruiz, a native Houstonian, feels a deep sense of joy and fulfillment to be back working in her hometown.

Her career journey took her to various cities, starting with over two years at the NBC and Telemundo stations in Chicago, where she made history as the first reporter to work for both stations daily.

Prior to her time in Chicago, Anayeli contributed her skills as a reporter in South Texas, serving at the NBC/Telemundo affiliate in Corpus Christi. For an impressive three years, she reported and anchored the news in both English and Spanish, showcasing her versatility.

During her tenure in Corpus Christi, she played a significant role in the launch of the 5 p.m. and 10 p.m. newscasts for the Telemundo station and provided coverage of the landfall of Hurricane Harvey.

Anayeli’s extensive experience also includes roles at the ABC station and Mundo Fox in Corpus Christi, the NBC/Telemundo station in Midland/Odessa, and Azteca America in Houston.

Although she was born in Mexico City, Anayeli was raised in Houston, Texas. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Communications and Spanish from the University of Houston, fondly cheering for the university’s team, the Coogs. During her college years, Anayeli interned at KHOU, the station that ignited her passion for journalism, making her return to the same station all the more meaningful.

In her leisure time, Anayeli finds delight in dancing, cherishing moments with her family and friends, exploring new restaurants, and taking her two beloved dogs, Pancho and Frida, on refreshing runs.
