Bill Rentschler hails from Lincoln, Nebraska, where he grew up alongside his three sisters. After completing his high school education at Pius X High School in 2008, he pursued his passion for meteorology at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
Bill’s broadcasting journey began with an internship at KLKN in Lincoln, paving the way for his first broadcasting job at KGWN in Cheyenne, Wyoming. There, he served as a reporter and meteorologist, eventually becoming the evening meteorologist from Monday through Friday in November 2015.
During his time in Cheyenne, Bill’s life took a beautiful turn as he got engaged to Katie, his high school sweetheart, and the two tied the knot in November 2014 in Estes Park, Colorado. The couple received the joyful news of expecting their first child in 2015, which led them to return to Lincoln, where both their families reside.
Joining KOLN in December 2015, Bill initially worked as a reporter before transitioning to his role in the weather department. Throughout his tenure, he has provided weather updates across the state, covering regions from the Panhandle to southeastern Nebraska, including sister stations.
In June 2016, Bill and Katie welcomed their first child, Liam Rentschler, into the world. Surprisingly, shortly after Liam’s arrival, they discovered they were expecting baby number two, and Jamie was born in August 2017.
Outside of work, Bill, Katie, and their two boys cherish spending time outdoors, taking walks to the park, enjoying the company of their dog Snickers, and engaging in a unique hobby of seeking out mowers (yes, it’s a real thing!). In January 2020, Bill achieved a significant milestone by earning his CBM Seal of Approval from the American Meteorological Society, a prestigious certification held by less than half of on-air meteorologists.
Despite a busy schedule balancing work and parenting, whenever Bill finds rare moments of free time, he often indulges in his love for golf, often accompanied by his golfing partner, Ken.
Bill’s passion for meteorology and his commitment to professional excellence have been acknowledged by his membership in the American Meteorological Society. As he continues to thrive in his career, both on-air and behind the scenes as a devoted husband and father, Bill Rentschler remains an inspiring figure in the world of meteorology and a cherished member of the Lincoln community.
