Lawton’s contributions also extend to NHL Network’s special event coverage, including the NHL Draft and the Stanley Cup Final.
Lawton’s hockey journey began when he was selected as the first overall pick in the 1983 NHL Draft. He went on to have a successful career as a player, competing for 12 NHL seasons and participating in over 500 regular-season games.
Throughout his playing career from 1983 to 1993, Lawton showcased his skills, scoring 112 goals and accumulating 266 points. Even before his professional career, Lawton represented Team USA at the 1983 World Junior Championships and achieved notable success at the high school and prep school levels, leading Woonsocket, Rhode Island High School and Mount St. Charles Academy to four consecutive prep school state titles.
After hanging up his skates, Lawton transitioned to becoming an accomplished NHLPA agent, representing players in their contractual negotiations. He later took on the role of General Manager, Executive Vice President, and Alternate Governor for the Tampa Bay Lightning, where he made significant contributions for two seasons.
Before joining NHL Network, Lawton showcased his insightful analysis as a hockey analyst for Sportsnet. He also served as a managing partner for JNG LLC, a prominent sports brokerage firm.
