With an impressive career spanning over 25 years in television news, Byron Brown has become a prominent journalist. Since January of 2003, he has been an integral part of the News Channel 12 team, taking on the role of evening anchor at 5:00, 6:00, and 10:00.

Byron’s journey led him to News Channel 12 from our sister station WFLA in Tampa, where he showcased his talents as a weekend anchor. Throughout his career, he has held various anchor positions, including weekday morning and midday anchor at WOIO/WUAB in Cleveland, Ohio, weekend morning anchor at KCNC in Denver, Colorado, and weekend anchor at WCIV in Charleston, South Carolina.

Throughout his eventful career, Byron has covered a multitude of significant stories, ranging from politics to natural disasters. He experienced his first major storm, Hurricane Hugo, in 1989 while stationed in Charleston, South Carolina.

During the controversial Presidential Election of 2000, Byron was in Tampa, Florida, reporting on the unfolding events. However, one of the most impactful stories he covered was Hurricane Katrina, where he dedicated long hours of continuous anchoring for several days during WJTV’s extended coverage.

Byron is an alumnus of Alabama A&M University in Huntsville, Alabama, where he earned a degree in telecommunications with a minor in business. During his time at the university, he also showcased his skills in soccer as a scholarship athlete. As a testament to his dedication to journalism, he is a proud member of the National Association of Black Journalists.

Originally hailing from Yellow Springs, Ohio, Byron is happily married and enjoys family life with his two children. His passion for journalism and commitment to delivering impactful news to viewers continue to make him an invaluable asset to the News Channel 12 team.
