C.J. arrived in Santa Barbara in January 2002, and since then, he has become a prominent figure in the local news scene, anchoring weeknight broadcasts and delivering compelling investigative reports through his exclusive NewsChannel 3 Investigates Tipline series.

Before joining the station, C.J. built an impressive investigative reporting career. He was the Investigative/Call 12 For Action Reporter at KPNX-TV in Phoenix, Arizona, and played a pivotal role in creating the Troubleshooter 5 Unit at KPHO-TV in Phoenix.

C.J. also contributed as the 47 On Your Side Reporter at KJEO-TV in Fresno, gaining valuable experience in uncovering stories that matter to the community. His passion for journalism took him to stations in Lansing, Michigan, and Palm Springs, where he honed his skills as a seasoned reporter.

Throughout his career, C.J.’s dedication to investigative reporting has earned him numerous accolades. He was honored with a 2011 Regional Edward R. Murrow Award for Best Investigative Reporting, recognizing his commitment to delivering impactful stories.

Additionally, C.J. received the prestigious 2010 RTNA Golden Mike Award for Best Investigative Reporting (Div.B) and earned a 2010 Emmy nomination for Journalistic Enterprise. Over the years, he has garnered four Emmy Awards and nine AP Awards, further solidifying his position as a highly respected journalist.

Beyond his work in the newsroom, C.J. is known for his involvement in various local causes. The Santa Barbara Arthritis Foundation recognized his contributions with the 2010 Mary G. Kendall Award, acknowledging his many years of service to the community.

In 2018, C.J. and the entire news team received the esteemed Westmont Medal from Westmont College, a recognition reserved for individuals who have demonstrated bravery, courage, and excellence in news reporting during challenging events such as the Thomas Fire and the Montecito mudslides.

On a personal note, C.J. shares his life with his co-anchor Beth Farnsworth, and together, they cherish the love of their two beautiful daughters, who, like their parents, appreciate the beauty of the beach and all that Santa Barbara has to offer.
