Colton Shone embraces the early mornings with enthusiasm as he co-anchors Good Morning Arizona alongside Tess Rafols from 4:30 a.m. to 6 a.m. on weekdays. Following the morning show, Colton takes on the role of a reporter, covering community events and conducting live segments throughout the rest of the morning program.
For Colton, the opportunity to anchor and report in his hometown is a dream come true. He joined Arizona’s Family in August 2022, marking a significant milestone in his career. Prior to his return, Colton served as an anchor and reporter in Albuquerque and Tucson.
During his time in Albuquerque, Colton co-anchored the region’s top-rated morning show for nearly seven years. His coverage of the Navajo Nation’s resilient fight against COVID-19 earned him three Emmy Awards and led to the creation of a compelling 30-minute documentary titled “The People vs. The Pandemic.” As a proud member of the Navajo Nation, Colton holds a deep passion for reporting on issues affecting Indian Country. He has extensively covered the Missing and Murdered Indigenous People crisis, as well as initiatives focused on cultural and language revitalization. Additionally, Colton spent several years in Tucson as an anchor and reporter for the local CBS/FOX affiliate.
Colton’s connection to the Valley goes back to his college days when he landed his first job in the industry as an anchor and reporter for 92.3 KTAR-FM. He later transitioned to television news, working as a reporter at CBS 5 in Phoenix before seizing an opportunity to anchor in Tucson.
A proud graduate of ASU’s Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication, Colton was part of the inaugural cohort of students enrolled in the joint bachelor’s and master’s program. Returning home with his wife, they find joy in the busy moments of parenthood, thanks to their son. Exploring family-friendly activities, hiking adventures, and discovering new culinary delights are among their favorite pastimes when they are not working.
Colton Shone’s dedication to delivering news, his commitment to his community, and his love for his hometown make him a valuable member of the Good Morning Arizona team. Tune in to catch his engaging presence and stay informed about the latest stories and events in Arizona.
