Eivin Kilcher Biography
Eivin Kilcher is a hunter and uses his skills to feed his family. He features in the reality show Alaska: The Last Frontier alongside his family. The show is based on the life of the Kilcher family and shows how they survive the harsh climate in the wilderness without much modern technology.

Eivin is the oldest son of Otto Kilcher and Sharon Mckemie. His parents later divorced although her mother lives near the Kilcher homestead and has a close relationship with her sons.
His father, Otto Kilcher, is an expert in collecting, repairing and recycling useful equipment to live a self-sufficient life who gained fame with the reality cable television series ‘Alaska: The Last Frontier’.

Eivin’s stepmother Charlotte Kilcher whose origin is North Carolina is a wildlife biologist who had to go through life changes as she was a vegetarian since she was 13 years old.

In August 2011 Eivin married Eve Steller Matkin, who is an Alaskan native and have been friends since childhood. They both attended Homer High School and graduated in 2001.
Eve features alongside Eivin in the reality show Alaska: The Last Frontier on the Discovery Channel. They reside in the wilderness of Alaska where Eve grows vegetables and fruits while Eivin goes hunting.

Eivin and her wife Eve has two children Findlay Farenorth Kilcher born on 24th November 2013 and Sparrow Rose Kilcher born on 28 September 2015.
During an email interview with People magazine, Eivin said that raising a child in Alaska is hard as they lack many amenities like electricity to heat the house during winter.
“We choose to live this way and even though it can be hard, we feel it is important to pass on this kind of self-sufficiency to our son… It takes a lot of wood and coal to keep our house warm through the long winter months. We also make many of the things we need for our baby and make our own baby foods from fruits and vegetables we have grown.”

Eivin is a jack of all trades as he follows his own approach to a subsistence lifestyle that revolves around hunting and fishing than farming. He started out with a single cabin and he continues to grow, He lives a hybrid lifestyle between a hunter and farmer.
Eivin and Eve have a cookbook ‘Homestead Kitchen: Stores and Recipes from Our Hearth to Yours’, which was published in 2016.
In 2012 Eivin posted on Facebook that together with his wife they live a hybrid lifestyle with old and new ways of living melded together.
Eivin said during an email interview with People magazine that growing up in Alaska wilderness gives a deeper understanding and appreciation of nature.
“Growing up in the Alaskan wilderness gives you a very deep understanding and appreciation of the natural world around you. It is very important to respect the space the wild animals need for survival.”
Eivin also says that there are dangers of living in the wilderness as they face threats from animals.
“When walking home at night we have to watch out for coyotes, bears, wolves and angry moose. As a child, I was more scared of being trampled by a moose than eaten by bears or wolves.”
