Before her time at CNN, Elise Labott worked for various media outlets, including ABC News and Agence France-Presse (AFP). She earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and later pursued a master’s degree from the New School for Social Research.

At CNN, Elise holds the position of global affairs correspondent, where she covers US foreign policy and international affairs. Throughout her career, she has reported from over 80 countries and has had the opportunity to interview and travel with seven Secretaries of State.

Recently, she conducted an exclusive interview with Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to commemorate his first two years in office. Additionally, she engaged in a conversation with former Secretary of State Rex Tillerson to discuss his first year in office. Elise was the sole television reporter to accompany US Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley on her trip to Africa and also traveled to the Olympics in Korea with Vice President Mike Pence.

Her reporting extends to conflicts in Syria, Ukraine, and Israel. In Israel, she covered the re-election of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and even traveled with him on his plane from Israel to Washington for his speech to Congress on Iran. Elise dedicated two years to reporting on nuclear talks with Iran and the signing of the 2016 nuclear agreement.

Since joining CNN in 2000, Elise has covered several significant global events, such as the Camp David peace talks in 2000, the September 11 terrorist attacks, and the Arab Spring. Notably, she played a prominent role in CNN’s award-winning coverage of the 2011 attack on the US consulate in Benghazi and the life of the late Ambassador Chris Stevens.

Throughout her career, Elise has covered numerous conflicts and events worldwide, including the Palestinian civil unrest, the Israeli war with Lebanon in 2006, Pakistan’s state of emergency in 2007, the war between Russia and Georgia, and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice’s historic trip to Libya in 2007. She has also reported from the de-militarized zone on tensions with North Korea and traveled extensively through the Middle East, Afghanistan, and Pakistan. In 2010, Elise traveled across Afghanistan with US reconstruction teams.
