In August 2014, Jared embarked on his journey with unwavering enthusiasm, joining the team and immersing himself in the world of New Mexico sports. Wholeheartedly, he took pride in bringing captivating stories to the community, fostering a strong connection between sports and the people.

Jared’s venture into the news industry commenced at KENW-TV, where he worked full-time while also taking on the role of Public Address Announcer for ENMU Athletics. His time at KENW allowed him to gain comprehensive experience both in front of and behind the camera, laying the groundwork for his future success.

During his junior year, a pivotal moment arrived when Jared assumed the lead sports anchor position. It was then that his passion for news truly ignited, sparking an unwavering love for the business of journalism. Moreover, Jared became the spirited “Voice of the Greyhounds,” delivering enthusiastic announcements for various sports events at the University.

As a native Greyhound, Jared’s fervent support for the Lobos was deeply rooted in fond childhood memories of their games. Baseball, in particular, held a special place in his heart, having grown up playing the sport and developing a profound love for the Chicago Cubs.

Recalling cherished moments of his youth, Jared remembers sitting in front of the television, passionately calling pitches while watching Cub games, an activity his father fondly attests to. As a former catcher during his formative years, Jared nurtured dreams of playing in the MLB.

Yet, as he matured, he recognized the need for a more realistic path and set his sights on becoming a sports broadcaster, the next best thing to being on the field.

Today, Jared Chester thrives as the Weekend Sports Anchor/Reporter at KRQE News 13, fueled by his unwavering passion for storytelling and his commitment to covering local sports with utmost dedication.

Hailing from Cibola High School, Jared’s academic pursuits led him to earn a degree in Broadcast Journalism from Eastern New Mexico University, further honing his skills and shaping his promising career in the world of sports journalism.
