John Elliott Biography

Elliott attended Wayne State University in Detroit where he received his B.A. in radio, television, and film. He also earned his master’s in communications from Central Missouri State University. Elliott studied meteorology at Mississippi State University. He was an advertising copywriter and producer and he also taught media courses at Mott Community College in Flint, Michigan, and Central Missouri State.

He first worked as a weathercaster at WRBL-TV, the CBS affiliate in Columbus, Georgia. He then joined KGET later transitioning to his role as a news anchor. He was a morning news anchor for KGET-TV, the NBC affiliate in Bakersfield, California. He also worked for XETV-TV in San Diego, where he served as an anchor on the Fox station’s morning newscasts.

Elliott has appeared on weekday mornings on NBC as a weathercaster on “Early Today.” Before joining CBS 2, he worked for two years at KCBS-TV in Los Angeles. He is a recipient of the California Associated Press award for Best Weathercaster and has received numerous honors for his news features and general assignment reporting.
