Judith Cárdenas Biography and Career

Judith Cárdenas is a news presenter at Hechos Valle 5.2, a Spanish-language news station in the Rio Grande Valley. She is a native of California, but she was raised in Mexico. She began her career in journalism at the age of 14, when she hosted a music video program on a local television station in Juchipila, Zacatecas, Mexico.

“I was passionate about music, and I loved the idea of being able to share that passion with others,” Cárdenas said. “But I also knew that I wanted to be a journalist, so I started interviewing artists on my show. It was a great way to learn about the industry and to meet new people.”

After her time in Juchipila, Cárdenas returned to California to finish her studies. She then moved to the Rio Grande Valley, where she worked as a reporter for a local Spanish-speaking station. She also worked as a local weather anchor on weekends and as a weather correspondent in California, Boston, Tijuana, El Paso, Laredo, Corpus Christi, and Midland-Odessa.

“I loved being able to travel and to meet new people,” Cárdenas said. “But I also knew that I wanted to be back in the Valley, where I could tell the stories of my community.”

In 2018, Cárdenas joined the Hechos Valle 5.2 team. She is now the news presenter at 7 a.m. and 12 p.m. She is also the station’s weather anchor.

“I love my job,” Cárdenas said. “I get to tell the stories of my community, and I get to help people understand the world around them. It’s a privilege.”

Cárdenas is a passionate journalist who is dedicated to her community. She is a role model for young people who are interested in a career in journalism. She is also a tireless advocate for the Rio Grande Valley.

“I believe that everyone has a story to tell,” Cárdenas said. “And I believe that it’s important to tell those stories, so that people can understand each other better. That’s what I’m committed to doing.”
