Katie Nielsen is a highly acclaimed reporter with over a decade of experience in sharing captivating stories. In the summer of 2017, she joined KPIX and soon found herself at the frontlines covering the devastating Wine Country Wildfires.

As one of the first reporters on the scene in Santa Rosa, Katie provided constant updates and brought to light the stories of bravery and tragedy unfolding amidst the fires. Her exceptional reporting earned her two prestigious national journalism awards: The Society of Professional Journalists National Sigma Delta Chi Award for Breaking News and the National Headliner Award for Breaking News.
In the following year, Katie continued her live coverage, reporting from nearly a dozen major wildfires in Northern California, including the Camp Fire in Paradise and the Carr Fire in Redding. Her remarkable reporting of the Carr Fire earned her the National Headliner Award for Breaking News for the second consecutive year, a truly remarkable achievement.
A native of Southern California, Katie is delighted to be back in the Golden State. She has an impressive career background, having worked at TV stations in New York, Arkansas, Missouri, and Nevada before returning to the West Coast.
Prior to her work at KPIX, Katie reported for Comcast Sports Bay Area, focusing on horse racing and baseball. She is a proud alumna of the Missouri School of Journalism at UM-Columbia and holds a Masters of Jurisprudence from the Loyola University Chicago School of Law.
When not chasing news, Katie enjoys running with her dog, Chloe, as well as golfing and skiing. Additionally, she is a competitive equestrian, showing her jumping horse, Moose, in competitions.
