Katrina Sperl hails from Stanton, Nebraska, and fondly recalls her early days filled with a passion for performing. As a child, she always found herself with a microphone in hand, relishing the joy of singing and being on stage.
Her favorite childhood toy, a karaoke machine gifted by her Grandma and Grandpa, added to her love for music and self-expression.
Her journey into broadcasting began with radio, interning for 94 Rock in Norfolk, NE, during two summers and later at B103 in Nebraska City. However, her path soon shifted towards television journalism as she delved deeper into broadcasting and journalism classes.
This realization led her to intern at Channel 8 KLKN-TV, where her passion for TV journalism flourished. As a William H. Thompson scholar, Katrina found a welcoming home in the learning community and Journalism College, which became her support and foundation during her college years.
In June 2018, Katrina became the weekend anchor for Channel 8 Eyewitness News, and she thoroughly enjoys her role as a reporter during the week. The diverse and ever-changing nature of journalism excites her the most, as she gets to experience something new every day and build meaningful connections while conducting interviews. Each interaction offers her insights into various individuals and subjects, constantly enriching her understanding of the world.
In her leisure time, Katrina indulges in making crafts inspired by Pinterest and creates personalized gifts for her loved ones. She also cherishes outdoor activities, relishing the beauty of nature and the opportunities it offers for relaxation and exploration.
