Her journey in journalism began at California State University, Sacramento, where she played a key role in establishing the broadcast program for the acclaimed State Hornet. The hard work and dedication of her team paid off with impressive recognition, earning fourth place for best of show multimedia package at the 2020 Associated Collegiate Press College Journalism Convention, and second place for best of show broadcast news story.
During her time with the State Hornet, Kayla also took on responsibilities as the social media manager and senior editor for Her Campus at Sacramento State, showcasing her versatile skills in the digital realm. Her outstanding contributions earned her recognition as a student connect recipient for the 2019 NLGJA Conference.
Although originally from Southern California, Kayla embraced the opportunity to venture to the East Coast, even if it meant experiencing the unfamiliar cold and snow. With her passion for journalism and a strong drive to excel, Kayla is determined to make her mark in the industry and continue her journey of growth and success.
