Kerry Charles is a respected weeknight anchor for NBC4, bringing his wealth of experience and talent to the station. Before joining NBC4, Kerry served as an anchor/reporter in Atlanta, showcasing his journalistic expertise. Prior to that, he spent seven years as a morning anchor in Greensboro, N.C., further honing his skills in the industry. Kerry’s journalistic journey has taken him to various cities, including Shreveport, LA, Cincinnati, and Columbus, where he has worked as a reporter and producer.
Central Ohio holds a special place in Kerry’s heart as it is his hometown. He attended Columbus City Schools and graduated from Linden-McKinley High School, and later pursued a communication degree from the University of Cincinnati.
Kerry’s passion for broadcasting started at an early age when he became a host for Kids Sundae, a weekly radio program aired at WCBE 90.5FM, during his time at Crestview Middle School. He also gained valuable experience as a young anchor and reporter for the Kids News Network, aired on Saturday mornings in Columbus.
Throughout his career, Kerry has covered a diverse range of stories, from following viewers to the Bahamas after Hurricane Dorian to anchoring special coverage at significant events like presidential debates and national political conventions. He has reported live from the scene at impactful events such as the Charleston church shootings, the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington for Jobs & Freedom, and Super Bowl LIII. During the grand opening of Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta, Kerry had the opportunity to interview renowned entertainment icons.
Kerry is deeply committed to giving back to the community, actively engaging in various service projects. He played a significant role in establishing an ongoing initiative that provides free haircuts, lunches, grooming lessons, and financial literacy workshops for kids. As a member of Phi Beta Sigma and the National Association of Black Journalists, Kerry continues to make a positive impact.
Acknowledged for his outstanding work, Kerry is an Emmy Award winner and was honored as a member of the Morehouse College MLK College of Ministers and Laity in 2018. This honorary college recognizes professionals who use their platform to improve the lives of others. In 2014, the University of Cincinnati recognized him as a Communication Alumni Champion.
