He has reported and produced from the scenes of significant events such as Hurricanes Florence and Harvey, the Borderline Grill shooting in Thousand Oaks, the Montecito Mudslides, the Boston Marathon Bombing, the Joplin Missouri Tornado, the Gulf Oil Spill, the Death of Michael Jackson, and several destructive brushfires, including the devastating Camp Fire in Paradise, California.

Vercammen’s reporting also extends to space exploration, where he has covered multiple NASA missions and provided coverage of lunar eclipses and a total solar eclipse from Salem, Oregon. He has delved into the realm of crime and trials, covering the conviction and parole of O.J. Simpson for kidnapping and armed robbery in Las Vegas.

Additionally, Vercammen has contributed to CNN’s sports coverage, reporting on prestigious events such as the World Series, the Super Bowl, the Stanley Cup, and the College Football Playoffs. He has also been involved in CNN’s election coverage, including caucuses, primaries, and general elections from 2008 to 2016. Notably, he conducted interviews with GOP Vice Presidential nominee Sarah Palin on two occasions.

Before rejoining CNN in 2006, Vercammen held various positions in the journalism industry. He served as the news director and 5 p.m. anchor for KEYT, the ABC affiliate in Santa Barbara, and was an adjunct professor at the USC Annenberg School of Journalism. Vercammen’s prior experience also includes reporting and anchoring roles at CNN in Los Angeles and New York, as well as being a writer for the Financial News Network.

Vercammen’s dedication and talent have been recognized through numerous awards. He has received five Emmy awards, including one for CNN’s 2012 Presidential Campaign Coverage, and has been honored with a Mark Twain Award for Associated Press California Station of the Year. Vercammen was also part of the CNN teams that earned Peabody awards for their coverage of the Gulf Oil Spill and the general election of 2008. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in print journalism from the University of Southern California.
