Phillip John Donahue also is known as Phil Donahue is an American media personality, writer, film producer and the creator of The Phil Donahue Show. He was born on Dec 21st, 1935.

His father, Phillip Donahue, was a furniture sales clerk and the mother, Catherine, was a department store shoe clerk. He attended Our Lady of Angels elementary school in the West Park neighborhood of Cleveland.

He lived in Centerville Ohio during his childhood. He was a member of the first graduating class of St Edward High School. He then graduated from the University of Notre Dame wit a BSC in Business Administration. The graduation was in 1957.

Donahue Career

His career began in 1957 as a production assistant at KYW radio and TV in Cleveland. He later became a program director in Adrian, Michigan after he graduated. He then became a stringer for CBS Evening New and then an anchor for WHIO-TTV in Dayton, Ohio. He interviewed John F. Kennedy.

In the 1980’s he co-hosted a series of televised discussions as the US-Soviet Space Bridge together with Vladimir Posner. It was the first show of its kind to be aired. He returned to TV in MSNBC with the Donahue Show in July 2002. The show was however canceled on February 25th, 2003.

He was the co-director in the feature documentary, Body of War. The film tells the story of Tomas Young, a severely disabled Iraq War veteran and his turbulent postwar adjustments. In November 2007 the film was named as one of fifteen documentaries to be in consideration for an Oscar nomination from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

He has been awarded 20 Emmy Awards during his career in the broadcasting career. He then received Peabody Award in 1980 and he was inducted into the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Hall of Fame in November 20th, 1993.
