Robin Meade Interview
Q&A: ‘HLN’s Morning Express’ anchor Robin Meade talks music career.
Interview: Red Light Management Atlanta office President Charlie Brusco (story on Brusco here) manages your music career. What made you want to sign with Charlie?
Robin Meade: I had seen and met [Charlie] at the Georgia Music Hall of Fame. He told me he had so many different experiences but the biggest thing was we both went to Ashland University in Ohio. So, he went to the same college I went to and I was like, ‘OK. There’s something about this. How did he end up here in Atlanta too? He from Pittsburgh and I’m from Ohio.’ He told great stories about being in college there and, then, just the people that he had mentored in the past, and he was OK with me not doing music full-time because I have a full=time thing that makes me get up at 3 a.m. And, we love him, right? He’s a rock star unto himself!
Interview: What made you choose Eddie’s Attic for your recent shows?
Robin Meade: They called me and asked me if I would come. They kind of took a risk on me. They didn’t know I could fill the place or not. I’ve kept tight with Andy Hingley (Interview with Hingley here). I love him and the acoustics are great there. Most of all, there’s such a sacred-respect for music. Now, it’s a little notch in my ‘lipstick case’ if you will. Every time I get to play there and now I’m able to sell out two shows in a row and I’m like, Whoo!!!’
Interview: We heard you packed it out.
Robin Meade: It was a free show! (Laughs)I’m always afraid I’m going to have a show and no one is going to come. Isn’t that every musician’s fear? (Laughs)
Interview: Who have you seen at Eddie’s Attic that you enjoyed the most?
Robin Meade: Darrell Scott is a guy I had the honor of writing with. It was just kind of accidental. It was actually for a story that I did about songwriting with soldiers with PTSD. He was like the pro writer so I went to go see him when he played there. He’s one of those people that just comes in with his guitar and plays to a sold-out crowd of people who love him and know the songs he wrote for the Dixie Chicks and other’s.
