Sarah Gannon’s fascination with weather began at a young age, growing up in the charming town of Kenyon, located in southeastern Minnesota. Her love for meteorology started when she read a book about clouds in elementary school, sparking a lifelong passion for understanding weather patterns and tracking severe conditions.

After completing high school, Sarah was determined to pursue her passion and turn it into a career. She felt fortunate to discover a job opportunity so close to her hometown, allowing her to remain connected to her roots while pursuing her chosen career path.

In pursuit of her dream, Sarah enrolled at Northland College in Ashland, Wisconsin, and in May of 2017, she proudly graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science in Meteorology. To complement her degree, she also minored in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Environmental Studies, broadening her knowledge and expertise in related fields.

Throughout her college years, Sarah was actively involved in her college’s Weather Club, immersing herself in various weather-related activities. One highlight of her college experience was participating in the Weather Challenge for three years, which provided invaluable experience in forecasting techniques.

In 2015, Sarah demonstrated her leadership skills by leading a student forecasting team in Mesoscale Meteorology Storm Chasing, where she gained practical knowledge in predicting severe storms. Additionally, she dedicated considerable time to a Broadcast Practicum at her sister station KBJR-TV in Duluth, further honing her skills in weather reporting and broadcasting.

Sarah’s dedication to learning and gaining experience extended beyond the campus. During the fall of 2016, she seized the opportunity to work as a GIS intern with the National Park Service in Ashland, expanding her expertise in applying geographical information systems in environmental contexts.

Her passion for meteorology and her eagerness to learn and grow in the field have been evident throughout her journey. As a native of southeastern Minnesota, Sarah’s connection to the region’s weather patterns and the natural environment has deepened her commitment to understanding and forecasting weather changes that impact her community and beyond.
