Scott, a graduate of the University of Alabama, had a passion for sports and storytelling. He kick-started his career as a Sports Reporter for WVUA-TV while in Tuscaloosa, where he covered various sporting events. Later, he moved to Missouri to work at KTVO before finding his new home in Nebraska at NTV. At NTV, he covered significant events like the hiring of Scott Frost and Athletic Director Bill Moos.
Thrilled to be in the Sunflower State, Scott was enthusiastic about telling the stories of athletes from all walks of life. Having grown up in North Carolina, he had been a lifelong fan of the Panthers and Charlotte Hornets, and he hoped both teams would someday bring home a championship. Meanwhile, he remained dedicated to delivering the big stories on local sports teams to his audience. He was a people person and enjoyed meeting new individuals, encouraging anyone who recognized him in the community to say hello.
On the other hand, Cortney Braswell, a football coach, faced an unexpected opportunity that led him to leave his hometown program at Ridgeland High School and join the staff at the University of Louisville. His dedication to family and passion for agriculture had driven him and his family’s business, Braswell Foods, for four generations. They were known for producing high-quality feed and organic egg products, making them one of the leading organic feed and egg producers in the United States.
In another part of the story, Scott Braswell was introduced as a new addition to Woodberry. Coming from Wilmington, North Carolina, he brought with him thirty years of coaching experience. Before joining Woodberry, he had a successful coaching career at Hoggard High School, where he won a state championship in 2007 and achieved 12 conference titles. His journey in coaching also included head coaching at Olympic High School and assistant coaching at West Charlotte High School.
Coach Braswell was drawn to Woodberry by the opportunity to have a greater impact on students’ lives beyond the football field. Respecting the traditions and success of Woodberry, he emphasized the importance of using football as a means to teach essential values to his players.
One of his favorite memories at Woodberry was the victorious game against Benedictine, where they secured a 35-26 win. It was a significant achievement for the team, considering the skill level of their opponents.
The Woodberry community welcomed Coach Braswell, acknowledging that he shared the values that had been at the heart of the school for decades. His coaching staff supported him during the transition, and he was grateful for their assistance.
