She was born in Portland, Maine but raised in Yonkers, New York, and Ontario, Canada. She competed for Miss New York so that she could raise fees for Skidmore College but she dropped out after she won Miss America. She later studied in the University of Southern Califonia.
She was a reporter and news anchor at KABC-TV and she co-hosted several shows, for example, AM Los Angeles, Eye on LA, Hollywood Close-up and The Love Report. She later left KABC-TV and joined KCAL-TV and then after her job at KCAL, she joined UPN/13 Nightly News in Los Angeles in 2013. She has also appeared in a couple of movies and TV shows including Rocky II, TJ Hooker, and Benson.
