Tom Hale is an American meteorologist at the News 12 weekend. In 1999, he joined NewsRadio 1080 KRLD and TSN as Staff Meteorologist. Since moving to Texas Tom has led countless hours of severe weather coverage. Under his watch, 1080 KRLD has been the recipient of four Edward R. Murrow awards for breaking news.

Hale grew up in Santa Clara Valley, California, known for its serene weather. It wasn’t until he was 13 when his family moved to Chicago, Illinois that Tom fell passionately in love with the weather. He remembers getting off the plane, it was a hot and oppressively humid summer day and Tom hated it.
But his attitude quickly changed as towering Cumulonimbus clouds developed, growing 50,000 feet into the afternoon sky. The heavy rain, driving winds, lightning, and hail were breathtaking.
His grandfather was born September 8th, 1900 in the Storm of the Century, the great Galveston Texas Hurricane. He was given the middle name Storm. He was adopted by the HALE family.

During High School and College he had two weather mentors. WGN Chicago Meteorologist Harry Volkman, who in 1954 broadcast the nation’s first televised tornado warning over WKY-TV (now KFOR-TV) in Oklahoma City. Not to mention WLS Chicago Meteorologist John Coleman.
He graduated from his Alma Mater, the University of Tulsa. Moreover While still in college Tom forecast the weather on TV in Fort Smith, AR.

After College, His first full-time TV weather job was in beautiful Colorado Springs, CO. Wanting to return to Chicago Tom accepted a chief Meteorologist position in Green Bay, WI. When the chance to work at WLS Chicago with his mentor John Coleman opened up he jumped on it.
John joined Good Morning America and then went on to found the Weather Channel. Hale moved on to the KPIX San Francisco near Santa Clara Valley.
Fascinated by Tropical Weather, Tom accepted the Chief Meteorologist position in Orlando, FL. In addition, While there he was awarded the American Meteorological Society Seal of Approval (AMS Seal #280).
