Vance Joseph Biography

Vance Joseph (Vance Desmond Joseph) is an American former football player and coach. He’s the head coach of the Denver Broncos of the National Football League (NFL). He is the second African American head coach in Broncos history.

Vance Joseph Miami Dolphins

During the 2016 season, Vance Joseph joined Miami Dolphins as the defensive coordinator. He helped the Dolphins return to the playoffs for the first time in eight seasons. His defense ranked fourth in the NFL on third downs (36.2%) while forcing the sixth-most negative plays (107) in the league.

Dolphins won nine of their final 11 regular-season games accounting for the fourth- most takeaways (21) in the NFL during that stretch.

Vance Joseph Denver Broncos

On 11th January 2017, Vance Joseph signed a four-year contract as the head coach for the Denver Broncos. He became the second African American head coach in Broncos history, after Eric Studesville and the club’s first African-American head coach on a permanent basis.

On 11th September 2017, he won head coaching debut in the 24–21 victory over the Los Angeles Chargers. He finished his first season as head coach with a 5–11 record.

Vance Joseph Sexual Assault Allegations

In 2004, during her time as defensive backs coach at the University of Colorado, she was accused by two female trainers of sexual assault. A state task force investigated the claims as part of a massive recruiting scandal that involved multiple women claiming they were raped by football players.

The case was closed after one woman ed said she did not want to press charges and the other declined to talk to police. Joseph was not charged and later left the University of Colorado and took a job with Bowling Green.

In 2017 the sexual assault charges resurfaced when Joseph was hired as head coach of the Denver Broncos. John Elway, Broncos general manager, conducted an investigation into sexual assault and sexual harassment complaints against Joseph before hiring him. Joseph was asked directly about the accusations during the interview process. He deemed the allegations false and said he was deeply embarrassed by the sexual harassment incident because he was a married father.

Vance Joseph Career as a Player

Vance Joseph began his career in football while at the Archbishop Shaw High School. He played for the school team, Archbishop Shaw High School Eagles, as the starting quarterback for three seasons. He led the team to a 37–6 record and won Louisiana’s 4A state championship as a sophomore.

In 1990 he joined the University of Colorado where he played for Colorado’s Buffaloes team. During his first year, he helped the team win the National Championship title in 1990.

Vance Joseph left the club in 1994 after graduating, by the time of his graduation he had posted a 55.7 percent passing accuracy, and 4 touchdowns. Vance was also a member of the 1990 National Championship team.

In 1995 he was drafted in the NFL Draft but was later signed by the New York Jets as an undrafted free agent but later switched to the defensive back position. He played in the National Football League for the New York Jets and Indianapolis Colts for two seasons.

Vance Joseph Coaching Career

Vance Joseph began his career in coaching in 1999 when he became graduate assistant for the Colorado Buffaloes a position he held until 2001. In 2002 he briefly joined Wyoming Cowboys as a secondary coach. He later returned to Colorado as the defensive backs coach until 2003. During the 2004 season, he was the defensive backs coach for the Bowling Green Falcons.

Vance Joseph was hired by San Francisco 49ers on 17th February 2005 as a secondary assistant. He was promoted to secondary coach in 2006, a position he shared with Johnnie Lynn until 2010 when Lynn resigned.

In 2011 Vance Joseph joined the Houston Texas as the defensive backs coach. He helped Texans to three consecutive top-seven NFL rankings in overall defense. He also helped Houston to its first two division titles in team history and playoff wins from 2011– 12.

In January 2014 he was hired by the Cincinnati Bengals as the defensive backs coach. He helped the Bengals to back-to-back playoff appearances.
