Vanessa Tyler is an American Emmy award-winning journalist currently working as a host/producer of a popular new NYC Life TV show about Harlem titled What’s Eating Ha news anchor for the FiOS1 News Team.

she graduating from Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications
she started her career in one of the toughest news markets in the country at WTTG-TV in Washington, D.C. Her first job was behind the scenes as an assignment editor. After Washington, she received her first on-air job at the ABC affiliate in Salisbury, Maryland. Along the way, she reported in Rochester, New York and Charlotte, North Carolina. In Dayton, Ohio, Ms. Tyler was ‘the most-watched’ solo weekend anchor for the CBS affiliate.
While in Ohio, Ms. Tyler won a CBS award of excellence for her franchise assignment “Kids in Chaos” which was a year-long examination of youth violence.
Finally, Ms. Tyler returned to her hometown-New York. She was raised in Harlem. And is now host/producer of a popular new NYC Life TV show about Harlem titled What’s Eating Ha news anchor for the FiOS1 News Team. Ms. Tyler also anchors for Sarder Trlem. In addition to her show, she is also aV. Sarder TV is an on-line business show profiling C-Suite executives and thought leaders.
For the ten years, she was a reporter on WPIX-TV’s Channel 11 10 ’clock news where she earned her Emmy. Ms. Tyler is the winner of a New York Associated Press Award, and winner of a New York Emmy. She was also honored with six Emmy nominations.
Ms. Tyler also won a National Association of Black Journalists award. And the Garden State Association of Black Journalists has honored her with two first-place awards, one for her reporting on community impact. She was also an Adjunct Professor at Essex County College- passing on the knowledge of the news industry to those interested in pursuing a career in broadcast journalism. And for many years she was the voice on the recorded material for Heightened Independence and Progress, a New Jersey community organization serving the physically and visually impaired.
Ms. Tyler is also launching a simultaneous career as a Children’s book author and animation producer. Under her newly created production company VT|TV Productions, she is the creator/executive producer of unique programming content

she was 11 years old when she knew that she can be a television news reporter. Vanessa mother believed parochial schools would give her children an advantage and she was right. Vanessa admired her lay teachers and feared the nuns, but she loved to write and spoke well. Then she saw Melva Tolliver –It was bingo- that was what she wanted to do. Decades later when she had the blessed opportunity to do a profile on (now retired) Ms.
Tolliver she told her how she impacted her life. (Remember she was the WABC reporter they took off the air because she wore an afro). She was so gracious, smart, and humble. She is also responsible for a number of us African American journalists choosing broadcast news. The late Peabody award-winning journalist Gwen she fills also attributes her career path to Melba Tolliver.
Vanessa was more like a taskmaster. she researched what she had to do to get where she needed to do to make it happen.
